Everything begins with an idea. At the University of Houston part of my minor classes required an educational technology course. Part of being a teacher requires the adaptation that comes with technology. These are some projects that I created as part of the curriculum of the course.

This project was one of my favorites. It allowed me to create a classroom message where I described my class and the material. Technology was integrated in this lesson under the 2.2a ISTE Educator standard. Smores are essential in communicating messages with both students and parents and this project was a quick look into the future.

An infographic is a visual that displays valuable information that is easy to understand. As one of my first projects in techology integration this was an opportunity for learning. I have never experienced with Canva before but I learned about condensing information and making it easy for future students to understand. For this project I chose my focus to be under Students that are economically disadvantaged. I was one of those students when I was in school and it was a struggle to focus on my education and come home and see my parents worried about finances. That is why I chose this as the basis of my project.

After Covid-19 many schools shut down and transitioned to online learning. After a while with precaution schools decided to take the Hybrid instruction route. There are both pro’s and con’s to hybrid instruction and in this project my group and I did a presentation on the topic. This follows the 2.4 ISTE standard of collaboration. My classmates and I did research to provide the best information so we can communicate the idea that hybrid instruction can be beneficial to many students.

This was also a group based project. My classmates and I decided to come up with a lesson plan on the topic of the American Revolution and teach our classmates as if we were to teach in a real classroom setting. We came up with a PowerPoint and integrated Pear Deck which allows for students to participate while also learning lectured material. This is a great example of the 2.5 ISTE: Designer. In the future I will incorporate Pear Deck to make lectures fun and increase student participation.

New ideas are shared over all platforms. In this class there was support from my instructor and classmates. So in the future who will I go to for help? While many are dependent on social platforms to ask questions, I opted for a more traditional approach. There is nothing negative about seeking help over social media platforms and reach out to other educators, but what about asking our co-workers building connections and personal networks presently? ISTE 2.1b mentions the importance of being a learner. I prefer a more local approach.
